Hermann Pedit

Permanent exhibition in the artist’s garden studio

With this exhibition Hermann Pedit opens up his very private realm to the public. In contrast to a gallery, which can always present only finished works in a neutral setting, this studio has witnessed the creation of the works. This is where the original creative process takes place, the scent of the paints and the linseed oil pervades the air, the vestiges of the artist’s labour are visible everywhere. The studio is part of the work, reflecting as it were the artist’s personality and conjuring up with the help of a very special ambiance the ideal setting for Pedit’s oil paintings, watercolours and enamel compositions covering 5 decades.

“When you enter the room itself through the small doorway, you find yourself surrounded by many bright colours that shine from the fairly large pictures covering the walls and you are transposed into a kind of magic atmosphere.” (Konrad Oberhuber, Director of the Albertina Graphic Collection, Vienna, spring 1997, taken from “Hermann Pedit, Arbeiten 1954 – 1997”, published in 1997 by Tyrolia, Innsbruck)
