Bernd Zimmer

Kitzbühel

Born in 1948 in Planegg near Munich, Bernd Zimmer, along with Rainer Fetting, Helmut Middendorf and Salomé, founded in 1977 the Galerie am Moritzplatz in Berlin, which was to become the launching pad in Germany for the Heftige Malerei (Vigorous Painting), the later Neuen Wilden (New Wild Ones). The artist has been living and working in Polling in Upper Bavaria since 1984.

Bernd Zimmer’s painting was initially influenced by abstract Expressionism. His themes derive from his strong interest in exotic landscapes and cultures, which allows him to spend long periods travelling and staying in other countries. He develops his pictures serially from his work process, from the rhythm of repeat and change, and in the course of time has gained more and more interest in conveying an inner natural experience which takes on a transcendental dimension in the Kosmos series.

Bernd Zimmer’s works are currently on show also in the Stadtmuseum in Oldenburg until 2 February 2014. In the summer of 2013 they were exhibited in the Zhan Zhou International Cultural and Creative Park in Beijing (along with works by i.a. Georg Baselitz, Jörg Immendorff, Markus Lüpertz, Johnathan Meese, A.R.Penck and Sigmar Polke).

With a selection from the Cosmos, Russian Landing and Reflections groups of works the Gaudens Pedit Gallery presents an insight into Bernd Zimmer’s multifaceted work in the past ten years.

Opening:
